Golden Eagle Brooch / Aguila Dorada Broche

£35.00
Only 5 available

This design is inspired by Legend of Tenochtitlán a city in the centre of Mexico City.

The Legend of Tenochtitlán tells the story of the EAGLE and the SERPENT where the leader of a Mexica nomadic tribe was visited by a god named Huitzilopochtli in a dream. The leader was told by the god that the tribe would come across an eagle, perched on a cactus, devouring a snake. This sight would signal the Mexica people where to settle their new city. The Mexica founded Tenochtitlán in 1325 which is now the center of Mexico City.

The city was the capital of the expanding Aztec Empire in the 15th century. Tenochtitlán was one of the most important and powerful cultures of Mesoamerica. You can find the Eagle, the Serpent and the Cactus on the Coat of Arms on the Mexican Flag.
